CB2 Goodies

One of my best girlfriends JP always gives me the best gifts (thanks again, girl!). I wanted to share with you some recent gift giving goodies she gave me. First, I got this great "houses" tote which is just the best thick canvas and very roomy from CB2

I love the story behind this bag...the artist's name is Antonio Benjamin and it's his interpretation of San Francisco's colorful Victorian rowhouses. CB2 has a relationship with Creativity Explored, a nonprofit visual arts center where artists with developmental disabilities create, exhibit, and sell art. CB2 gives a percentage of each bag sale to the arts center. I have a special place in my heart for people with developmental disabilities because my oldest son Jared has Autism. They are a limited edition so if you like it get it here.

Second, she got me this notebook

I am a notebook freak and this one is made from recycled newspapers so it's perfect. It soon will be 72 pages filled with art ideas, quotes and doodles.

Pomplamoose Music- Single Ladies Remake

Love this! I like the way she seems just so casual looking around eating cereal. I like it better than the original...what about you?

New Clock

I have a new clock to show you guys...

This clock really makes me smile because it is so bright. It has a super deep edge and really stands away from the wall. I ended up using some leftover wood to make it...YAY!

Cute Kitty Cat

I was moving furniture around today and Mattie was watching over me. I'm sure she was thinking: what's this crazy lady doing moving this stuff around...again!

while I was moving stuff around I was baking some cinnamon rolls and they turned out oh so yummy! I was really happy when I heard the timer go off.

Worlds Smallest Postal Service

Have you heard of World's Smallest Postal Service?

It is a teeny tiny transcription service and roaming post office that is based in the San Francisco Bay Area and also available online here.

Lea Redmond is the Postmaster, setting up her tiny mobile office in cafes and shops where passers-by can write a letter and have it turned into a "world's smallest letter." The letter is transcribed on a miniature desk in the tiniest of script, sealed with a miniscule wax seal with the sender's intial pressed into it, packaged up with a magnifying glass in a glassine envelope, and finished off with a large wax seal (see above). It is a double delight: for both the sender and the recipient, and the WSPS is very happy to provide this important service to the world.
Cuteness!!

Peacock #2

Look at the mess on the desk! You should see the floor...yikes

I still have so much work to do on this peacock! I got tired of cutting tail feathers so I decided to take a break for the moment and paint.

Emotional Dog At Soldiers Homecoming

Hearts With Wings

Usually I don't do projects like this but it's one of those things I just wanted to do for some reason. I made some hearts with tin wings that have inspirational words on them. I'm finished with two and still have two left. They are bright and happy...

I really had a hard time cutting the tin for the wings, OUCH! I was smart and wore leather gloves while cutting too but still managed to get several cuts! Eventually, I got them all cut out and still have enough tin for a SUPER large one...yay!

Working In My Studio

I took a few pictures of my studio today. It really is a total wreck (but I didn't take any pictures of that). I've been working on some peacocks and it's lots of paper cutting because of the tail feathers.

I have quite a few pieces drying on my "finishing up" table. If you look close you can get a glimpse of the peacock I'm working on. I still have quite a lot of work to do on it...more to come soon.

Little Bird Says...love, love, love

I wish I had a super large scanner...ya know the kind you can sit a small child on if you wanted to. I 'm so not a techie person and when my friend suggested doing the double picture stitching thingamabob my brain started to hurt. I enjoy things that don't give me a hard time like paint, paper, pencils. I've never wanted to take a sledgehammer to my pencil or throw my paint out the window. So here are two pictures of half-artwork.

Sophie Blackall - Missed Connections

Have you ever seen Sophie Blackall's illustrations?

I think they are unique and charming but have you seen her Missed Connections blog? It's supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! Basically, she has two blogs. One is her Sophie Blackall blog where she talks about her books, home, and such and the other is her Missed Connections blog. It brings me great joy when she posts a new illustration on it. Here is why...she pulls from classified ads on Craigslist, Village Voice and Web sites exclusively dedicated to the digital message-in-a-bottle style listings and illustrates them.

Here are a few of her blog entries to get you started...

- m4w
We shared a bear suit at an apartment party on Saturday night.
I asked for your number and you gave it to me, but somehow I don't have an area code written down. I had a great time talking with you, and I don't trust Chance enough to wait until I see you in the elevators...

You had on a furry hat with ear flaps and you crashed into me at Wollman Rink today. You are a terrible but adorable skater.

2010

I can't believe it's 2010! Remember when we were rolling from 1999 to 2000 and the "experts" thought the computers were going to blow up the earth? I do because my husband is an IT guy and had to work late because of all that computer worry going around. It doesn't seem that long ago and yet here is 2010.

My friend asked me this morning to sum up 2009 in one word. I came up with successful and she came up with emotional. Our sweet friend John came up with sucky and my husband avoided the question all together. I thought about looking back on the happenings of this past year but I already know what went down and decided to give it a pass. I think Edna 'E' Mode said it best from the movie The Incredibles

"I never look back, darling. It distracts from The Now."

Happy looking forward to a great year!!
