Giraffe On A Bike Again

Giraffe On A Bike

This is just a post about how I did my little Giraffe friend...

(click on the picture to enlarge)

I do most of my paper cutting in pieces kinda like you would dress a paper doll. As you can see I assembled the bicycle first, then I started to build my giraffe. I start by cutting the general pieces with scrap paper and moving them around and gluing (I end up cutting more and placing more pieces here and there).

When I get the shape I like I put it on a single sheet of paper and cut around it. This gives me one solid piece to work with. Then I start cutting out my accent pieces and gluing them down to the original frame. That's about it, not much to it.

Look what happened to me when I was working on this...I call it a blow out and it's messy and frustrating! It happens from time to time when the cap gets clogged so I have to keep a pin nearby to clear it out. I will show you better pictures of my Giraffe once I get my scanner back.

I went to the zoo with my boys not long ago and took these pictures of the Giraffes. I love them they are so strange and so darn tall...none were on a bike though.

Grease Is The Word

Yes, I am a total goober and went to a Grease Sing A Long. When I was a kid (six to be exact) I had the vinyl album and played it to death. My brother was so sick of hearing me sing all the lyrics when I would get the record player out he would let out a yell!

I ended up going with my crazy fun friend Eleni and we had a blast. Everyone was singing and doing all the movements. I was really having a hard time with the hand jive because they were singing it so darn fast. It felt weird seeing it on the big screen and I never realized before that all the students at Rydell High school seem to have a two pack a day addiction to cigarettes. When I was a kid I never noticed how old the "students" were to be in high school

Red Birds

Here are some red birds Ive been working on...love this red paper! I have been spending most of my time in the studio nowadays working on art for White Linen Night in the Houston Heights. This event will take place August 7th from 6-9pm.

I have several other pieces I need to show you but my scanner is in the repair shop.

Cast Paper Sculptures

I bet you never would have imagined these sculptures are made of paper? A married couple Allen and Patty Eckman are known for their fine and detailed sculptures made of acid free cast paper.Their art shows mostly sculptures of Indians, but it also includes nature, women, children and animals.

The Eckmans are the inventors of the Eckman Method ® of Cast Paper Sculpture which is trademarked as theirs alone. Since 1988, Patty and Allen have developed and perfected the medium of cast paper far beyond any other artist in the world.
