Blanca Gomez

I am a fan of Blanca Gomez...her style is simple and well it's just darn cute! I ran across this illustration and it made me laugh because I am a huge fan of this kind of humor.

Have you seen her work on Etsy or Flickr ? If not here is some of her work to make the cuteness scale go off the charts!

So True! Books Are Wonderful!

8X10 paper and dye ink

I wasn't much of a reader when I was younger but now I LOVE to read (I don't make enough time for it). A friend tried to talk me into getting a Kindle but I'm totally old school when it comes to books. I love the feel of the pages, cover illustrations, using my paper book marker, and seeing all the pages I've read makes me happy. However, the all time best part is when I am all done, placing it on my bookshelf along with all my other "I've enjoyed all these books" place. That's the best!

More Anthropologie Love

Oh my, I totally love this store and the displays. I always enjoy looking in the store at new items and of course the window displays...*swoon*.

Here are some pictures from one of the stores here in Houston. It''s very hard to tell from the pictures but those flowers are empty water bottles! They cut them open at the base and spray painted them.

Is this not the best color blue ever?
This window had more of the flowers hanging from old bicycle rims...very cool beans!

Orchid and Birds

I've been working on some little 4x6 pieces with birds and orchids. My husband bought me an orchid the other day and taking care of this beautiful plant is tricky...only water certain times, don't get the leaves wet, certain temperature for day and night...goodness how do these things survive in the nature? I totally understand why people buy plastic ones. However, my husband and I are on a mission not to kill it. Wish us luck.

I don't need to worry about this one I'm working on
It's going to go on the blank green canvas. The two little birds in the background are almost done. The blue one says, "make simple a way of life" and the yellow one says "appreciate the many things that make your life so valuable".  I will show you better pictures when I get them all done.

working, working

Look at my messy desk! I have to clean it off after every project but then as soon as I get going on another it totally looks exactly like this again. Totally doesn't bother me until I see it in pictures Yikes! It's my crazy, messy, joyful place where I can make orchids that don't need to be watered.

Old Spice

I was reading Drollgirl's blog and ran across some new Old Spice commercials which got me to this one...

I love the ending...I'm on a horse.

Miroslav Sesek

 Miroslav Sesek
(1916-1980)

I love children books and my favorite illustrator is Miroslav Sasek. Oh, to be that talented...sigh. I find it interesting that very little is known about him. He was born in Prague in 1916 and died in Switzerzerland in 1980. He worked as a painter and illustrator for most of his life. He trained as an architect (because his parents didn't approve of him becoming a painter), can you imagine? He is famous for his "This Is..." series of books

starting with This is Paris published in 1958, he wrote and painted some of the best pictures of the world's greatest cities and countries. You have to admit they are super-duper cute! Lucky for us most of his books are being reissued.

In short his books just make me super happy!

Wind Is Not My Friend!

So here is a little update from the two art festivals I attended recently. My tent blew down at CityCenter and more than half of my art was damaged. I was the lucky one that had the water fountain behind my tent so you can guess where some of my art ended up. My tent and panels had to be thrown in the dumpster on site.
(sad face)

This past weekend I was at the Fulshear Artist Market and my sweet friend Adri invited me to share a tent with her since I didn't have a new tent yet or replaced my walls. We got off to a great start and then the rain and wind came. Her poor tent didn't make it and crashed down on us. Strike two!
(sad face)

This is what is left of Adri's tent and mine looked very similar. Some of the artist around us put a price tag on it which made us laugh so hard.

We decided to pack up and enjoy the festival which is something we never get to do because we are always participating in them. We got everything put away and then sat down to have some lunch. Later we walked around and talked with other artists and I got to spend some quality time with Adri...priceless!
