I so much enjoy going to Texas Art Supply. All the paper, paint, brushes and goodies! I only go about once a month because it is in town and 24 miles from my house. Today was the day for my trip and I remembered to bring my camera to snap a few shots. If you are an artist you know what I am talking about with this place! It also has a special place in my heart because it's where I met my husband.

This Weekend...First Saturday Arts Market
I have been busy, busy working to get artwork done for the May First Saturday Arts Market this Saturday. It rained all day so it was a great day to be inside my studio working. Unfortunately, I'm sick so and I had to take two very large breaks to rest (so I didn't get as much done as I'd hoped).
So here is my little fairytale artwork piece. I got some frames from a local thrift store and basically stripped them down to only the wood. I never realized how many little nails and sharp bits are in a picture frame.

So I primed and painted the frames and put these super cute little knobs on them. I was going to make the frames where they open but changed my mind.

I'm Back From My Road Trip
I made it back from the road trip to Arkansas. So I was with Eleni and we managed to laugh and sing our way through Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas.
We only got one state sign because Texas and Arkansas wasn't picture friendly...boo!

Oh, I never told you the reason for the road trip...to attend a wedding. Tanner was getting married to Gabby at the Mildred B Cooper Memorial Chapel in Arkansas. Isn't it awesome? It looks like a birdhouse from the distance.

Tanner looking snazzy.

Here we are on our way back from the wedding...Eleni had to take over driving because I was very tired.

I am going on a road trip with a friend and will be gone until Tuesday. Lots to see, lots to do...what shenanigans do you think we might get into?

Ready Made

Ready Made had a key challenge last month and the winner is Rikki Ansell. What a great idea she came up with!! Lots and lots of keys and paperclips...where do you think she got all those keys? The next challenge is using a slide carousel (you know the thing that you put the sides in on an old projector). The entries are due May 18th. You can see their website for more info.
I also thought this was an interesting idea to reuse old belts. That would not have even crossed my mind and I think that's why I like it.

New Artwork

I love old toys! Before having children I had a cute collection of tin toys. Before...that's the magic word.

Studio Shot Tuesday
My studio shot Tuesday is coming very late today...but better late than never I guess. So this is my printers cabinet I have in my studio. It is by far my all time favorite piece of furniture I own. My parents bought it for me at this wonderful place in Tomball, Texas called Texas Antiques. Shortly after I moved back to Houston my Mom and I ran across this little jewel. I was so excited to find it and the shop owner has lay-a-way so it was a done deal. To my surprise my parents paid it off for me!
The first few drawers have a ton of miscellaneous odds and ends that I don't really use. Just kinda collected over the years. I have a few friends that come and raid my drawers and I don't mind one bit.

First Saturday Arts Market
So here I am with Eleni at the Arts Market this past Saturday. I was so glad to have my friend helping me at the festival. Once we got everything set up we were good to go. So what do you think of my sign? I made it with an old shutter and recycled piece of wood. It got a bit scratched up in the back of my truck on the trip over.

Look who came, Adriana Whitney! OK, she is a sweetheart. I could have talked with her all afternoon about art, kids, moving, oh...we covered quite a bit in the short amount of time we chatted. Her blog is here Adri's Art and her Etsy shop is here Adri's Etsy
How lucky am I that she lives in Houston? I think I've made a new friend...YAY!
Here is Amie Needham from A Punkin Card Company and Erin Bordenave from Knotty By Nature. Names sound familiar? They have Etsy shops and both ladies have wonderful, wonderful items. Again, live in Houston! Lucky me!!
When the wind blew I was happy not only because it cooled me off but I could smell Cammie's Handmade Soaps. The smell was just outstanding! I had to go tell her I was in love.
Paule Sheya Hewlett of Beyond Her has the most fabulous items and I am completely in love with them. She had amazing scarfs that were so soft and comfy. I went to get one and they were all gone...next time get it when ya see it!
Here is Cindy Babbitt. I caught her in the act! I really enjoyed her work because it was so unique and functional. Here is a link to see more of her pottery: Cindy's Creations
*Little side note: she has the best business cards EVER!
Michael Weneck
Michael was super to let me take his picture in his busy booth. I fell in love with the tables and mirrors he creates. They are totally superb!
Last but not least Sharon Tevault from Lucky Sustainable Designs. I was so "lucky" to have the booth next to her! She had Eleni and I laughing the entire festival. Not only was she a great neighbor, comedian and advice giver, she has the most AMAZING items. She uses reclaimed, salvaged, and sustainably-harvested wood for all her items which I love. I can't begin to tell you how awe-inspiring her work is and pictures just don't do it justice. Eleni and I couldn't stop touching her items all day. She was one of the best parts of the show...love ya Sharon!
