Flute With Music
Ok, so trying to do this flute for some reason was just the hardest thing. Didn't enjoy doing this piece very much as all the little groves and nooks were driving me nuts! My thinking was that if I did one close up it might be a tiny bit easier but I was wrong. Have you ever looked at a flute? Man, those little suckers are intensely complicated! Flutes are off my list for a very, very long time.

Vox Culture August 2008
I've been so busy this week volunteering at VBS I haven't had time to do much arty stuff. I have several projects going on right now that I am trying to get ready for. One is the Vox Culture Benefit on August 3rd here in Houston. I will be selling some originals and prints during the show and eating lots of good food. FUN!

CareFree Gum
I'm a gum girl. I love pretty much any kind. I was eating at 59 Diner the other day and I went nuts over the gumball machine game they had. It is the best game because you could win up to 5 gumballs at once. I was hooked on this twenty five cent game! I never won more than three balls at a time but I spent three dollars on the game and walked away with a purse full of little round babies. My all time favorite tasting gum is Dentyne Blast Cool Lime. That gum just rocks and I would buy it in bulk if I could. Another one of my favorites is CareFree because of the name. Can a gum name get any better than that? I have to tell you my CareFree bubbles really are the best!

It Is All Done!
Yes, this is a quilt! I know it's hard to believe. I enjoy going to the International Quilt Festival every year and looking at the amazing quilts. My favorite part is the vendors market because you can buy anything and everything. I am always amazed at the craftsmanship, time and patience that goes into the quilts. They really are a work of art. The quilt above is called "Hope For Our World" by HOLLIS CHATELAIN. It won the 2007 Best Of Show Award 10,000 prize. Yes, I know it really is a quilt.and on to my little joy...
Miracle of miracles I finished a project I bought from the International Quilt Festival last October. I have been going to the festival for years now and each year I buy less and less. Why? Because I end up getting projects and they set in my craft closet waiting to be done.
So I decided a few years back to get a grip and not buy projects I don't have time to do. This past year I only bought two projects and actually finished one of them! Ta-da, my Fall felt table runner. I love Fall. To me it's the beginning of the best three months of the year.*Update
Several people asked me about this runner pattern so here is the information. It's by Wild Thymes Pattern Co. www.wildthymespatternco.com

Storming Off
Look at this funny print from Etsy seller TummyMountain. I have felt this way several times this week.
Friday...That's Good! That's Bad!

I wanted to share one of my all time favorite children's books. This is one of the best children's books I've bought for my boys (and we have about a hundred). It's the perfect marriage of story and illustration by Margery Cuyler and David Catrow.
A little boy has a series of adventures and misadventures with a bunch of wild animals. His parents buy him a balloon at the zoo and suddenly he is lifted into the sky. "Oh, that's good. No, that's bad! '' because the balloon pops when it hits a tree deep in the jungle. What do you think happens? Next time you're at the library or bookstore be sure to check it out because it's a super cute little adventure.

Knuckle Draggers Scooter Rally

Here are some items I did for the Knuckle Draggers Scooter Rally on August 1-3. I just love scooters so working on these pieces for the rally was fun. I hope they have a fun time! Here is the website if you want to check it out.
Here is a vespa I did on deep edge stretched canvas. I really like these papers because they are all handmade. When you look close you can see the "handmadeness" of the papers because they have tons of bits and tiny fibers in the paper. Also, what's a scooter rally without some matchbook art? I really enjoy using my vintage matchbooks because they are so fun
and different. None of them will ever be the same because I use a different matchbook for each one. On these I used an old Alka-Seltzer ad (blue one) and an old Macke Stauffer ad (green one). I think the
M. Stauffer was a tabacco company but I am not sure. That particular matchbook was so old it was falling apart. I was happy I was able to work with it because I really liked the color.

Wednesday Things
Do you get really excited when you get some new brushes? You promise them you are going to give them a good clean home. Then you get busy and think you'll just clean them later. This is a pic of my guys after they have been scrubbed to death. I think something was living in the water... I'm a bad brush parent.

I have two boys that love Star Wars. When I say love I really mean LOVE. Star Wars has been apart of my life ever since I started dating my husband. Now my children are obsessed. They make ships out of Legos, Tinker Toys and whatever else they can find. I hear blasting sounds day in and day out. If you don't know what a Pod Racer is count your blessings! Our cats are also aware of the Star Wars love. Check out Maddi trapped in the belly of a space ship on a mission to capture clones or something to that effect.
She is so used to it she just takes it in stride...whatever.Monday, July 7, 2008

My 4th of July
This is what I see in my future
+
We will be taking the kids to see Wall-E and light some sparklers. Not much of a fireworks gal but my boys are wanting to spark something. I will have the water hose ready in the event they spark the grass or something. Plus the teenager across the street always sets something on fire.

Albin Arts

I ran across Albin Arts at an art festival and was amazed. Albin Arts is a marriage
of fine art and photography by Patty and Mike Albin. Mike takes the pictures and Patty then completes the art by painting. See the catch is the photo is framed and the frame becomes the rest of the picture. So every frame is an original painting. Pretty cool huh? Here is the website to see more.
Here is a picture I took of Mike standing in front of one of the teams creations.
